This compares the actual vitamin B6 amount on the label, not the weight of an ingredient like P-5-P. US adults need 1.3 mg a day up to age 50, rising to 1.5-1.7 mg after that. The US safety ceiling for supplements is 100 mg a day. Note that UK guidance is far stricter (just 10 mg) because of nerve-damage concerns at lower doses - if you're comparing to UK-labelled products, that reflects a different country's safety guidance, not a difference in product quality. Food and other supplements count towards your total too. Read the dose guide ↓

How much vitamin B6 is in your daily serving?
US RDAs are 1.3 mg/day at ages 19–50; at 51+, 1.5 mg for women and 1.7 mg for men. Pregnancy and lactation needs differ. The adult UL is 100 mg/day from all sources, not a supplement target.
Our comparison band spans 1.3 to below 100 mg; a 100 mg supplement already reaches the UL before food. Lower-dose products may complement food adequately. NIH notes that other authorities use lower limits.
Evidence does not establish general cognitive improvement from B6 supplements. Pregnancy nausea is a separate clinical use: discuss treatment with your prenatal clinician.
Follow the verified product directions. Where the label specifies food, compare on that basis; this directory does not establish an ideal time of day.
Vitamin B6 side effects and excess intake
Who should be cautious? If any of the following apply to you, speak to a healthcare professional before taking Vitamin B6 - see the full detail below for why.
People combining B6-containing supplements
People with new sensory symptoms
Pregnancy or lactation
Children and people taking interacting medications
Long-term high supplemental B6 can cause nerve damage. Water solubility does not make unlimited intake safe. New tingling or numbness warrants medical advice; do not self-treat it with more B6.
Add up B6 from multivitamins, B-complex and combination products. Antiepileptic medicines, cycloserine and theophylline need professional interaction review.
A clinician can assess suspected deficiency, malabsorption or another specific indication. Pregnancy treatment needs an individualized plan rather than a high-strength retail dose.
Testing & quality: what to look for
Check whether evidence identifies the actual product and, for a COA, the batch. A factory-quality claim does not establish an independent result for this bottle. Unverified claims remain distinct from recognised certification.
Blood tests and vitamin B6 status
Plasma PLP is a common status marker. Interpretation depends on clinical context; a result is not a stand-alone supplement prescription.
