What is NAD+?

NAD+ stands for oxidised nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. ChEBI classifies it within NAD compounds and identifies it as a cofactor; chemically it is a dinucleotide, not a peptide. In cells, NAD+ accepts reducing equivalents in redox reactions and is converted to NADH, while NAD+ is also consumed by enzyme families involved in processes such as deacylation and ADP-ribosylation. The site's current technical directory name, “Research Peptides”, is not scientifically accurate for NAD+. Public-facing copy should call this a research compound or research product, not a peptide.

Established NAD+ biology is not the same as evidence for NAD+ products

NAD+ is indispensable to normal metabolism. NIH and biochemical reviews describe roles in cellular redox chemistry, ATP-producing pathways and NAD+-dependent signalling enzymes. However, showing that a molecule is essential inside cells does not establish that giving additional NAD+ from outside the body improves energy, cognition, metabolic health, ageing or lifespan. Clinical questions depend on whether the administered formulation reaches relevant compartments, changes validated biomarkers and, separately, improves meaningful outcomes. [S3] [S6] [S8]

NAD+ participates in metabolic redox reactions and is used by enzymes such as sirtuins and PARPs. [S3] [S6]

Some interventions can alter NAD-related concentrations in blood or cells. That demonstrates target engagement, not necessarily a clinical benefit. [S7] [S8] [S11]

Intermediate evidence

Health outcome claims

Claims about energy, cognition, metabolism, anti-ageing or longevity require trials measuring those outcomes with the same intervention and route. [S8] [S17]

Often unproven

Do not convert a rise in NAD-related biomarkers into claims of slower ageing, increased lifespan or improved wellbeing unless those outcomes were directly demonstrated.

What direct NAD+ research actually shows

Direct human NAD+ research is substantially smaller than the broader literature on NAD biology and NAD+ precursors. The best-characterised direct evidence located includes a small 2019 IV pharmacokinetic/metabolomic pilot, a 2026 retrospective IV tolerability study, a randomized IV comparison available as a preprint and a 2026 randomized trial of a proprietary oral NAD+ formulation. These studies address disposition, tolerability or biomarker changes more clearly than they establish durable clinical benefit. [S8] [S9] [S10] [S11] [S14]

2019 IV pilot

Eight healthy men received IV NAD+ and three received saline. The study tracked plasma and urine NAD-related metabolites and was not an efficacy trial. [S9]

Human PK/metabolomics

2026 IV tolerability study

Retrospective commercial-setting data compared repeated IV NAD+ with IV NR. NAD+ produced more infusion-related symptoms and longer infusion times; clinical efficacy was not established. [S10]

Retrospective human evidence

Randomized IV comparison

NCT06382688 compared IV NAD+, IV NR, oral NR and saline in healthy adults. A preprint reports acute biomarker and tolerability findings, but it is not a peer-reviewed clinical-outcome trial. [S13] [S14]
